Holes in old furniture - not woodworm?

Options
Bought some nice wooden furniture - probably 40 or 50 years old. Very good condition, but now I've got it home I've noticed a half dozen very small holes by the corner - see picture. Holes are less than 1mm, and too small for me to.get anything in to see how deep they are.

Would you worry about woodworm? The holes do look right where is is most likely to have been knocked or something, so hopefully there's a more benign explanation!

just old.  i worry more about the green fungus growing on there!
  • Thanks! The green bit just looks like paint or a similar stain (the pic makes it look worse than it is!) Would you bother doing anything to check for insects, or assume it's just the age of the wood?

there are scratch marks from one hole to another, which would indicate physical damage.
if you look at this pic of woodworm, you will see there is a hollow as the worm eats through the wood.  in your pic, they look like dents rather than hollow holes.

  • Given the pattern in your pic it's looks something pointy has been pressed against your furniture and slightly damaged it

    Nothing to worry about anyway

Thanks! While I'm asking about wood, there are some tiny marks/holes by there that do just look like damage/age - see pic. Any idea of best thing to do to make them look nice - just give them a wax?
  • That's weird - pic didn't upload. See here

That's just wood structure, not damage
  • That looks like bored child damage, drawing pin or compass? The green looks like felt pen so might be easy to remove.
  • Thanks! How would I get felt tip off?

lol.  you seem to be obsessed with the wood!  i would just leave it as old furniture is simply that, old.  i would try to remove that felt pen mark though as that would irritate me.
