Hi
I need to hang a heavy mirror (approx 8kg) in my kitchen. Bit useless at diy so just wanted to get advice on the size of screws / wallplugs i should use in a red brick wall so it doesnt end up crashing down one day.
Any advice greatfully received
Thanks

It depends. If you can get into a brick, not between bricks, and plaster isn't very thick, then IMO 6mm masonry drill bit, a good red wall plug sitting tightly in the brick and 4-5mm screw 40mm+ long will do the job.Are you going to use some hook or just a screw?3

Hi
Thanks
There are hooks on either side of the mirror so was just going to use screws then hang the hooks on them

Add a string or a wire and then make sure your wall hanging points are as far apart as possible to form a 60 degree angle.4 -
I have just hung a reasonably heavy mirror and the instructions say NOT to use a wire or string but to hang from the D rings either side on the frame.2

Thanks parcival
I was planning on doing that anyway due to the position of the rings.
Do you know what size of screws you used?0 -
I would recomend using a z bar to hang anything heavy to spread the weight. That's what I used for a large mirror.2

I'll have to do a similar job when I move into my new place and this is incredibly helpful, thank you!Carrot007 said:I would recomend using a z bar to hang anything heavy to spread the weight. That's what I used for a large mirror.1 -
Our house is modern so just plasterboard. I used the toggle type plug that opens out behind the plasterboard. They are steel with a screw as part of the fixing. The mirror d rings sit on the screws. Sorry I can't remember the make but take a look at youtube and search plasterboard fixings if interested.1
