HSBC app question

Hi,
I’ve recently returned to HSBC after banking elsewhere since 2012 so their app is new to me.
I’m interested at some point in possibly having a credit card with them. Do they give you any offers / indication in the app when you qualify or do you just have to do an application and see what happens?

Comments

  • App never prompted offers to me. That may be because as a general rule I untick/disallow all marketing offers and emails from banks.
To get the credit card, you can directly apply to them.
  • The app barely does basic banking functions so I doubt it'll be marketing anything.
  • Do the application and see what happens. Since they split the bank and made UK customers use a separate app we only get the bare basics. They really need to up their game as they are getting left behind, then again I don't think that is by accident. HSBC will offload us soon.

Another thing about their app, it doesn't work with Android 10 Go.

Interestingly my cheque book has just arrived ( very retro I know ) and oddly my branch is shown as “HSBC Premier Banking Operations” with a sort code of 40-11-84 yet I didn’t open a premier account, I wish! Just an HSBC Advance account.

Is this your current account sort code?

    It is indeed listed as
Hsbc Uk Premier Banking Operations Binley
    Coventry
    CV3 2SH
  • Yep, that’s my sort code. My other accounts that I’ve just opened - savings - are showing as my previous branch from when I had my current account with HSBC before.
  • That's weird as generally HSBC assign new accounts to generic sort codes unless you open the account in branch. Maybe they have re-assigned this sort code.

I find the UK specific HSBC app a great improvement on the previous global version.
It's nothing specific though, HSBC are introducing local banking apps everywhere on a more modern code base so it's easier for them to push out updates.
