in Credit cards
Hi Guys,
I need a bit of advice. I need to purchase some new windows for my house. I would like to do this in the most cost effective way possible.
Sainsburys are offering 0% on 'up to' 20 months which sounds great. My questions is how do I know what kind of limit will be available before I apply?
Any suggestions?
Thank you,
Mr_C

For the majority of banks - you won't.Some like MBNA and Lloyds give you a provisional guide to your limit when you complete their eligibility checker.
First things first - see if the eligibility checkers actually come out positively for you - sainsburys bank has one, lloyds and MBNA have them, and a few other banks also. Don't use the comparison sites to check eligibility - go direct.
If it turns out that only X card says you're eligible but doesn't give a limit indication - the only way you'll know is by actually applying.
Credit availability isn't as easy to come by at the moment - so there's a chance the limit won't be as high as you want it to be. I'm guessing a whole house of windows won't be cheap?0 -
And before doing this do the window company actually accept credit cards for the amount you're talking about ? How about using your normal card and they moving to a 0% balance transfer (again assuming you can get something with a suitably high limit)1

Thanks for the advice. The credit club give me a good chance of acceptance.Thank you for the speedy responses1

Check again on the banks own website - don't rely on the credit club results.Mr_Curious said:Thanks for the advice. The credit club give me a good chance of acceptance.Thank you for the speedy responses1 -
A balance transfer card wouldn’t work you would need a money transfer card.k3lvc said:And before doing this do the window company actually accept credit cards for the amount you're talking about ? The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -
It’s only an indication as others have pointed out it’s better to use a credit providers own eligibility checker if they have one rather than depend on the MSE one.Mr_Curious said:Thanks for the advice. I recently did a search on this website for a 0% credit card. The search showed me having no chance of successfully applying for any, despite an excellent credit score. A check on clearscore gave me a preapproved MBNA card with two years 0 % for balance transfers
How can this be?0 -

Because your excellent credit score has no impact on lending decisions. That is down to each lender's assessment of your risk.0

@k3lvc suggested the OP use an exisiting card and then use a balance transfer, which very miuch would work - assuming A) they have an exisitng card with a high enough limit anddr_adidas01 said:

they can actually get a balance transfer card with a high enough limit later. 1
