HSBC, no more card access on my account

I have a HSBC flexible saver account which I withdraw money from. Today I went to make a withdrawal and the cash machine swallowed my card, I have been using this account for over 10 years with my debit card with no issues.
I ended up having to drive all the way down to the town centre, only to be told that account no longer has a card. I was never informed about any of this and now I have no access to my account at all. I asked if I could set up a current account and the person I spoke to said 'No' due to covid. Is this person just really horrible at their job or is it now not possible to set up a HSBC current account?
I'll try to set up online banking hopefully, that will give me access to my account but overall not very impressed with HSBC customer service at all.

You can apply on line.

You could make a formal complaint about the withdrawal of the card without notice.0 -
Change of terms and conditions is always notified in writing. Possible that you binned the letter?1

I set up a HSBC current account recently and it took less than a week
applied online, got paperwork and a debit card through a few days later
was withdrawing money from it at the ATM 6 days after applying
i was pleasantly surprised cos I read horror stories about it taking months!0
