    So I've accepted and paid the fine from my Landlord as the situation had become sour. In fairness the sourness was before yesterday but the fine was for yesterday. Not sure what to do now, perhaps I should close this off.

    I think you need to split this out logically. Raise a complaint with Nationwide about the access problems and see if they will pay some compo, up to the sum you have been charged by the landlord. You can also ask them for formal correspondence confirming that their internet banking was down over the period you stated, which when supplied to your landlord may result in them refunding the charge. If you get lucky you might end up ahead, you never know,

    Consider if there is anything you can improve to organise your money with a bit more contingency in future as it's not good being in a position where you login 1 hour before a bill is late as system outages occur frequently enough they should be expected to sometimes happen.

    Was Nationwide down all evening - Faster Payments generally take a few minutes and you've appear to have only agreed the date with Landlord.
