Has anyone insulated their conservatory?

I have an old conservatory with a polycarbonate roof, its pretty chilly in the winter and I've seen some adverts (and got a quote to insulate the ceiling). It came out what a I thought as a little high 2K. Has anybody had it done? What sort of cost was it are you pleased with the results?
Thanks

What size is the conservatory.  It's impossible to say whether the cost is high or not without at least that information.

I have seen some that look very good and some that look terrible. It will depend on the finish and the materials. Are you going to match roof tiles? are you going to have sky lights or a roof lantern ? It will depend if you want to use the room all year round.  Also the size will have a huge impact on the cost.

  • The size is 3.4m x 3m. I based on the fact the inputs are for to construct wooden frame using 25x50mm pse timbber to the existing roof. Adding some insulation which looked like space blanket (£100 / 12 sqm), then covering with plastic fasica. The install time is less than a day, unsure how many people on the installation team.
  • We went down this route about 5 years ago with pro-rata costs much the same as yours. All was well until the polycarbonate roof developed leaks (nothing to do with the insulation) after a few years. Access from below for a proper repair wasn't possible so after a couple of failures, we opted for a lightweight tiled roof. With hindsight this is what we should have done in the first place.

My parents had their conservatory roof done.  100 mm kingspan, three veluxes and all walls plastered.  Has made one hell of a difference to the practicality of the room, also much quieter when windy or raining.

I recently had this done for considerably less money.  (I paid £2500 for the conservatory, removal/cleaning/refitting of all gutters, installing a personnel door in a garage (cutting the brickwork + fitting under pre-existing lintel / I bought the door separately) ... It's "cheap and cheerful". I did patch up the existing roof beforehand and the new ceiling is much quieter and makes it a more pleasant space, probably won't get quite so hot in summer and definitely holds in the heat from my little space heater much better ... I would not consider this a long-term option, however, so it depends on what you want to use it for.  If mine lasts a few years while I think about to make best use of that space, I'll be happy!

I had about the same polycarb roof replaced 2 months ago. Gone for a GRP roof with 4 big windows in. its much nicer and cost around £4k. Its made the room into part of the house rather than an add-on
