    I would want to have a closer look at the detail.  But from that photo it looks like the wall between the 2 garages is built ON the boundary, but the upstairs wall of the extension is stepped back slightly from that to ensure the gutter does not overhang the boundary.  If that is the case a neighbours future upstairs extension could not join directly onto your extension.
