Energy company didn't inform next one of change of meter (Twice)

Hi,
I am in a what feels like a bit of a unique situation as I haven't been able to find an answer from googling.
I was originally with Scottish power and I requested them to install smart meters. They installed the electric one first but I swapped energy provider to Npower before they changed the gas meter. I never provided readings to Npower and they just charged me estimates. I changed to Octopus in March and provided them with a reading recently.
They had taken the estimated readings from Npower as fact for the changeover but because the gas meter was different it was showing a far lower reading.
I did have a record of the meter reading from May which I didn't submit at the time but they have taken it now to work out how much I have used with them.
I told them I was worried about paying for the same energy twice as I believe the estimated handover reading was an over estimate as the electricity meter was overestimated by a fair bit and they told me that I would need to contact Npower about this. Is it right for them to ask me to deal with it with them or should they help? And would I also need to contact Scottish Power about this as well as the new meter belongs to them.
Unfortunately the information written on the yellow meter exchange sticker is not legible so I can't work it out from that.
Can anyone offer advice?

Responsibility for managing any meter sits with the present supplier. It follows that if there is an issue with the meter then your present supplier will sort it out.0

Hello atomacheart,
The responsibility to update the meter exchange lies with the supplier that changed the meter at the time, if the national registration database has not been updated the responsibility lies with your current supplier. With regards to the incorrect billing of your Npower account, if you get in touch using the contact details on our page our team will look into this for you.

Ok, so this has turned out to be even more complicated than I thought.
First off to answer Robin9. I have recently been diagnosed with autism and one the effects it has had on my life is that it has caused me to have problems with executive function when dealing with providing updates and getting forms in on time. I am now having assistance with this.
So whilst looking into contacting previous suppliers it turns out I hadn't switched from nPower. I used to be with them but much longer ago. However I have been with 2 different suppliers since I have requested Scottish Power install the smart meters. First it was EON and then AVRO energy, I have contacted both of them to let them know there is a discrepancy. I have no idea how it will be resolved though as I also don't know what the readings were when I switched from EON to AVRO so I can't see how to figure out what my bill should have been with each of them.
