Cluster flies

Anyone had any experience of these? As we’ve reached Autumn, the house seems to be consumed by them in the hundreds, being attracted to lights and corners of the room.

How do I get rid of them and deter them from coming back?!

we had a strange one a few summer ago.  it was directly above the drainage.  we kept the window closed and they then went away.
  • Thanks but we have all windows closed so they seem to be finding a way through a crack or crevice somewhere?!

They are looking to hibernate - have you checked your attic to see if they are already "clustering" up there? That's possibly why you are seeing them in the house. They are harmless and probably won't be back next year, I had them one year and never again. I personally wouldn't spray them, the chemicals will certainly be more harmful than the flies. If your attic eaves are ventilated properly then you can't stop them getting in, its just a lottery whose house they choose.

Bet the hoover buzzed though when you'd finished!! :D
I'm writing a book on plagiarism. It wasn't my idea.
  • Been hoovering them up regularly but they just keep appearing in the tens! Just considering pest control now to be honest...
