Business account vs personal account

Hi all! I noticed today my eBay account is set up for business rather than personal.... I’m not sure why as I only sell items I no longer use and I only buy for myself. I tried to change this in account settings but it said I can’t and I just wondered if there’s any disadvantage to me have this set up i.e. higher sellers fees or something like that? Thanks in advance

There is no 'advantage' to having a business account except that if you buy or make to sell then it is a legal requirement- so the benefit would be not getting into trouble for being incorrectly registered. Once your account has been designated as a business one, it cannot be changed back to a private one, however you can have more than one account - so can have a business and a private one.

In the UK business legally must have a return policy that allows for a change of mind return, at the present time this is not a requirement for an ebay private account- although many private sellers find a proper policy is better than risking a false INAD claim.

The fees and costs though are the big difference. Currently most private accounts have up to 1000 free listings a month (capped by any personal cap due to being a new seller) , a business pays for all their listings. private accounts also get loads of free offers, limited FVF promotions etc, roughly twice a month- business sellers do not. There are also some slightly reduced FVFs for private sellers.

All the csosts are shown clearly if you use the ebay help system
