Wooden windows advice

Hi,
I’m hoping for some advice related to carpentry/window making/trading standards.
We recently (well almost a year ago now) had wooden windows and a door made for our house. I was initially happy with them until there were a few issues we discovered. Firstly, when it rained water pooled under the door and under the windows (between the main frame and the frame around the glazing). As a solution to the door issue, the company came back and trimmed the bottom off the door and put a storm guard on. This resolved the issue but water still pools under the windows. It stays there for a couple of days and does not drain away. On some windows it is getting into the fuzzy draft excluder things.
There is also a large draft coming from between the doors so now it is actually colder in the porch than when we had an old single glazed door there.
So, we’ve contacted the company and they’ve said, that’s just how we make them. There’s nothing more we can do. (In fairness they’ve come out a few times to try and resolve the issues but I think aside from starting again the problem is not fixable.) I have asked for a FENSA certificate to see if FENSA can look at the work but they won’t give me that until I’ve paid the full amount. I’m reluctant to give them more money when I’m not happy with the job. (We’ve already paid £10,000).
So just wondering whether anyone has any advice on what to do next?

  • Get another firm in to tell you what's wrong, what needs doing and quote for putting it right.
Then goback to the 1st company armed with that information.
Do not pay the 1st company till you are happy. How much is outstanding?
  • We’ve paid the majority as initially we were happy with the work....until it rained... so we only owe them £1000. Will try to find another company for advice. The only thing is, I suggested I would get FENSA in to see what they think of the work....the company’s response was, “well they only look at the glass and even if they say anything about the way they’re made, that’s just how we make them.”
