0161 numbers

Is it ever OK to answer calls from an 0161 number? Every week I get multiple calls which I usually ignore but occasionally answer, if I am distracted, doing something else. Much of the time the line is dead but other times there is some low life parasite at the other end desperately trying to con me into purchasing their garbage. I work with multiple legitimate call centres but I really don't know how anyone with any decency or integrity could work for one of these parasitic organizations.
I now have over 100 blocked 0161 (and 0113) numbers on my phone - one of which has tried to contact me 28 times in the last 2 weeks. I now ignore and block all 0161 numbers.

I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!

0161 is code for Manchester, 0113 code for Leeds. However it does not mean that is where the caller is calling from.5

I don't believe it, I had barely clicked on submit of the above and another parasite has rung me 01615436991I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0

So hopefully you never have any need for a genuine call from anyone in Manchester (or Leeds)IvanOpinion said:I now have over 100 blocked 0161 (and 0113) numbers on my phone - one of which has tried to contact me 28 times in the last 2 weeks. I now block all 0161 numbers.

I do have dealings with people in Manchester but they are in my contacts so I can see who they are. Sadly if some legitimate business from those Manchester (or Leeds) is trying to contact me then they will be blocked. These parasitic call centres are doing harm to real business.k3lvc said:

It's not just Manchester. There's one recent Manchester number I've blocked but plenty in the past from Peterhead to Penzance.0

It's those 0207 numbers that are a real nuisance.
Personally I never accept calls from anyone: if the message is important they can send me an email.

I have a answer machine and i say if important leave me a message they never do.

On my landline I have BT Call Guardian (their version of Truecall) ... if the caller is not in my VIP/contacts list then they get asked to make an announced message before we decide whether to accept the call ... scammers/parasites never do. On my mobile I use the Should I Answer app. In both cases the number of scam/nuisance calls I get are minimal.0

020 is the area dialling code for London!Voyager2002 said:It's those 0207 numbers that are a real nuisance.

Only some numbers starting with 020 are London. Some are ones which BT allocate to businesses who have no UK office but want a UK phone number and also Foreign Office locations outside the UK. So a number starting 020 could be someone phoning from Westminster, Mumbai, New York, Vienna or any other worldwide city you can think of.daveyjp said:
