Missold a static caravan

Options
I was sold a static caravan which was much older than the site owner said it was and he charged me ,£20, 000. He refuses to buy it back and I've found out because of its age I will be lucky to get £500 for an offsite buyer. What can I do about it. Thanks

What does it say on the paperwork when you purchased  it does it have the correct age on? Do you have anything to prove the seller told you how old it was?
  • We need much more information to give any meaningful advice.  For a start, how can something supposedly worth £20,000 now be supposedly worth £500?  When did you buy it?  What does the paperwork say?

Who did you buy it from; the site owner or a private individual? Are you a trader or a private individual?

If you are a private individual buying from the site owner, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives you rights if the item you have been sold is not as described. If you have found out the description was wrong within 30 days, you are entitled to a full refund. You should write a letter before action saying that you are rejecting the caravan and saying that the contract is at end end, asking for a full refund, and agreeing to use any alternative dispute resolution process (ADR), e.g. if the site owner is a member of an organisation that offers a mediation or arbitration service.  If you found out the description was wrong after 30 days but within six months, you can have a refund, but the site owner can deduct a reasonable amount for the use you have had of the caravan. If you have had the caravan for more than 30 days, using an ADR process can help ensure that the deduction is reasonable.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

That one is relatively easy.  Many sites which host statics only allow them to be on site while they are under a certain age.  They don't want their sites cluttered with old caravans as its not a good advert for the site.   So the like of Hoseasons sites limit the age.  A caravan older than allowed has two choices.  Find somewhere else to pictch it which is not easy and costly to move them or sell them.  They are not worth more than £500 after a certain age.

Whilst true, you'd like to think that someone could tell the difference between a £500 caravan or a £20000 one based on the fact you can get a new one for circa £24,995 inc vat & delivery.

I don't disagree with you to an extent.  However a caravan say thats 12 year old probably doesn't look much different to one thats 19 year old.  They do age quickly in the early years but that does slow down at time passes.  I quick upgrade to the interior fabrics can make an old one look younger.
I would hope that the OP does have paperwork which details how old the caravan is.  Given it was the site owner who sold it I would also expect they would have the full length of time it was welcome on the site.

There was a news article yesterday about this -- 22 years I think was mentioned

It can be anything between 10 and 20 years.  It can make owning a static an expensive business as along with the purchase price, there are service charges and then you need to write it off year by year

We seem to be getting a lot of duplicate posts on here lately.

Is the new troll to look back at old threads and re invent them?
