I've recently been made redundant. I have 12 weeks notice until I can claim my notice pay. Obviously I now have to start claiming UC. Can I be made to find work before the end of my Notice Period?

There's comprehensive information from the government here : https://www.gov.uk/universal-credit/eligibility
I guess you can start looking around for a job at any time now. . . but you have to be on a low income or out of work to claim UC. It may be that within the 12 week notice period you find alternative employment and won't need to claim at all.
If you have a partner, their income and savings will also be taken into account if you claim UC.Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. Are you on garden leave or did you get PILON?
Why is their a delay in the notice pay?
You can claim new style/contributions JSA from the day you were terminated.0 -
OK I'll try to explain my situation as best I can.
26th Oct firm goes insolvent through loss of business due to pandemic, employed there for 13 years. So government claim for redundancy. 12 weeks notice period, due on 18th Jan 2021. Partner only works 13 hours per week due to our 3 young children and the commitments that are involved. I've now completed all forms for universal credit and am awaiting outcome. So now I'm just asking the question, with my notice period been 3 months away. Will I be hunted down to take any job, and lose the notice pay in the process. Obviously I understand my obligations to the UC system.0 -
You might not qualify for any benefits for 12 weeks but the devil is in the detail.
if you are living off your own money for 12 weeks then you can do what you like.
if you want taxpayer benefits you are expected to look for a job. I realise that’s very difficult during a pandemic but basically the help comes with obligations unless there’s a reason (such as health) that means you can’t look for work.1
