2010 Ford Focus MOT advisories
Hi all
Car passed MOT yesterday but did come back with a few advisories
Front wiper
Rear indicator bulb
Corrosion on front of front coil spring
Oil leak but not excessive
First two are no problem. Fair enough, the coil spring potentially rust so unsure on the urgency, I am two minds about the oil leak, Im hoping it may be a seal so cheap fix. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance

The oil leak could be as minor as a split breather hose that'll cost buttons and take minutes - or it could be an engine-out job. Impossible to generalise.
A bit of surface corrosion on the spring is not only functionally irrelevant, but to be expected on a 10yo car. When they fail, it's not normally because of corrosion, it's because of stress fractures.1 -

obviously, I’ll do bulb and wipers, in terms of not wasting money, would you suggest holding fire on the coil - (even the garage said it comes up on all MOTs), and focus on finding what is causing the oil leak?
cheers

Yep.
The leak can't be that bad if you never noticed it marking your usual parking spaces.0 -
Thanks again, I haven’t moved my car since the MOT yesterday morning so will check tomorrow when I go to sort the wipers and bulb0

I had " front spring corrosion " on the last two MOT,s ,the garage said the same ,it,s not unknown on an old car but i did change them this year as we had loads of time and nothing else to do thanks to covid .
I fitted rear springs two years ago and the car has only done about 5k since then and got an advisory of some rust on one of the rear springs ,could have argued with the MOT tester but its not worth it and it is only an advisory, the car has a very very slight oil leak on the engine but will not taking the engine and gearbox out of a sixteen year old car for that0 -
I'm just curious as to how a blown indicator bulb can be an advisory rather than a fail ? Not that it matters, it'll cost peanuts to rectify - but that doesn't sound right to me.
