AO damaged carpet

Yes, you are right. I apologise for My misleading remarks above.DiddyDavies said:
Firstly, it's oil. not grease. There is a big difference between the two.GDB2222 said:The amount of grease in the compressor is tiny. Just enough for lubrication of the piston. That article refers to "refrigeration oil" - which does not accord with my idea of reality.
Secondly, The amount of oil in the compressor of an average household fridge freezer will typically be somewhere in the region of 60ml to 90ml (about 3 fluid ounces) which is why these compressors have a small sump in the bottom of them. It is also why time is needed for the oil to drain back into the sump if the appliance has been tilted whilst moving it and this amount of oil would be more than enough to leave a nice oily trail along a carpet. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Huh?DiddyDavies said:
IMO, not a good idea.Homer_home said:Why haven't you tried cleaning your carpet yourself?
If it is oil, getting all of it out without spreading the stain would be extremely difficult and if this was to happen, AO could then claim that as the OP made the damage worse, they are no longer liable.
It would be safest to wait until AO have investigated and come to a decision before doing anything with the carpet.
They are called pictures
You take pics , clean carpet and see what happens , if you make it worse then you still have pics before you tried to clean it
You do know the first thing ao will say is have you tried to clean it?
You do also know a fresh wet stain is much much more easier to get out than an old dried stain don't you?0 -
Why would you clean the carpet yourself when you know you can't do it ot the standard needed to get it completely clean? If it was a spill of some kind that they knew what it was and how to get rid of it fine, but this is not the case. A carpet cleaner will have more idea than your average Joe. This is not the OPs fault, stop having a go.

As oil generally doesn't evaporate or dry out in a short space of time, the chances of the stain becoming "an old dried stain" is very remote.Homer_home said:Huh?

It would be fair enough trying to clean it prior to contacting AO but as they have already been informed about the damage, I stand by my statement that attempting to clean it now would be the wrong thing to do.
Putting something on it to blot up any excess is fair enough as this won't spread the oil but without having the correct detergent to safely and completely remove the contaminant could well leave the OP in a far worse position than they are now.

They could just get the carpet cleaning people in and keep the receipt.Seems ridiculous to wait when there is a chance it could become ingrained.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I have, I would assume that would go without saying.Homer_home said:Why haven't you tried cleaning your carpet yourself? This website is so judgemental and negative at times, especially when people have expressed how much they are looking for *help*
it’s black on cream, it’s beyond standard household clean. And before you say it, yes I will of course be looking at a professional clean solution before replacement. I am a reasonable human.0 -
That was my concern (and reluctance) but they asked us to let it dry, hoover it and then try and clean it. I took time stamped photos before, during and after.DiddyDavies said:

No , drip feeding us information or leaving out pertinent facts is just going to take you down the path this thread hasllmjdd said:

Oh and never assume anything......
Fyi I also have cream carpets (which really don't work for me) my job as an engineer means that I have been guilty of leaving lovely black footprints on my carpet , I get them out by using carpet cleaning detergent neat (Screwfix no nonsense stuff) on the stain , rubbing it in then running my carpet cleaner machine over it (a god send with a cream carpet) that shifts it every time0
