Help - How do I whiten tile grout

Hi, Can you advise an easy or relatively easy way to make brilliant white the files group?  I’ve already got rid of mould with bleach & HG mould stray and they are left in a greyish colour.

All advice, information and web links most welcome.  :)

  • loads of grout paints on the market. i've recently used a Polycell one to very good effect in our shower area. basically paint it onto the grout (it doesn't matter if you get it on the tiles but try to minimise that), then leave till dry and sponge it all off. gives a really nice finish.

I've found the grout pens effective although they're probably a bit more expensive than the paints. Available from all diy places, eg

I use the Unibond grout reviver pen every now and then which you can get from most diy stores. Works well enough.

I just paint with white emulsion and wipe off. It seems to last as long as any 'special' paint.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Using Dettol mould and mildew spray weekly will help keep it white once you've revived the grout

Did you have the aqua blue paint that was exactly the same shade as a certain brand of toothpaste?  I wonder how many  picture holes were filled with that !
  • Before you lash out on expensive products, try a clean old toothbrush and bicarbonate of soda mixed to a paste with water.

Thanks for the unique idea. What type of emulsion did you use? Thanks

Use the pointy shaped tool on a hand held steamer, if you have one.  If not, see if you can borrow one.  Brings up black, mouldy grout like new and keeps it like that for a long time.
