TV mounts that move vertically?

Hi,

I have ordered a TV recently and I am now looking into wall mounts to buy.

One of the things that worries me most is that I don't set the height to mount the TV at the optimum level and then I'll have to live with it forever. I was then thinking I can just get a mount that allows the TV to move up and down.

However looking at mounts online, they all seem to allow for tilting left right up down, allows for it to extend out from the wall and even allows for rotation in the vertical plane. But I cannot seem to find any that allows for TV moving up and down in the vertical plane. Why is this?

Why can are you able to move it in literally every direction apart from up and down? I would have thought up and down would be a desirable function.

Thanks,

I saw a cantilever wall mount ( the video was American so no idea if it’s available here ) , basically a TV was wall mounted above a  fireplace , ( the centre of the screen being about 1.8m high) the TV could be pulled forward and down by about 1m in front of the top half of the fireplace about so probably not a good idea to have the fire on , this height more natural if sitting /reclining in a chair, in this video when not in use the TV was returned to over the fireplace.
While  this installation was above a fireplace , obviously it could be anywhere on a flat vertical surface capable of handling the weight of the mount and TV, it wasn’t clear if it basically had 2 positions, or was variable between fully up and fully down, it looked like a quality item.

Have a shufti at this - it allows the TV to be adjusted vertically by up to 16" and you can check whether it's compatible with your particular TV (I've just checked and it'll do 65" TVs, dunno how big yours is). You can also download the fitting instructions and dimensions

Sounds good, a link would be helpful!

That look interesting, however whilst it does go up and down, it doesn't tilt left and right. I was hoping for one with the whole package. But even then, when I tried clicking on "Where to buy", it doesn't seem to be showing up on any of the sellers sites. Hmph.

I guess I will just have to settle for a fixed height. I have some painter's tape and marked out on my wall, so I will test around with it until I find the right height.

    Thanks,

It's recommended that you have the centre of the screen at the same height as your eye level when sat in your normal viewing position.  This minimises eye fatigue.

Thanks for those guys, however seeing those videos I can see that you have to extend out of the wall quite a bit before you can adjust the height. Whilst this accomplishes my up down criteria Ive now lost out on viewing distance. My sitting room is not too big so I cant sacrifice on that!

Ive moved my painters tape around a bit now and think I have found a suitable height. Thank you again for your troubles.

If the TV doesn't extend outwards then you wont have enough clearance for it to tilt to the left  and right (per your requirement above). Any bracket that provides left/right tilting will require a large outward extension depending on the amount of adjustment that you want.
TBH I think you have to decide which functions are most important, sliding or tilting and then get an appropriate bracket that does the job
