Sim's memory cannot be accessed

I'm unable to send messages on my Nokia E72 - when I look for the recipient it states: "unable to access contacts saved to sim's memory" but it gives no reason for the failure.
I have been removing it to enter it into my newly acquired Alcatel mobile.
Could I have damaged it when removing it, and exchanging it, with another sim, from an older Nokia? Moving it into the slot of the Nokia has been time-consuming as the sim is so small!
Am I entering it correctly - face up, positioned indicating the notched edge. When I check "General" it still states: "Enter sim card" when it's been entered. The phone nenorry is 224.4MB.

  • it does sound like you may have put it in upside down. just try it the other way with gold part facing down.

If its saying 'insert SIM card' then proper contact is not being made between the metal chip on the SIM and the terminals in the phone slot (or tray?). But usually it's not possible to position the SIM incorrectly - it should go in easily without any forcing...

Try wiping the SIM chip surface with something soft, you may have handled it too much.

I'm confused about your various phones and the accessing contacts issue...

No luck- tried it everywhich way. I checked General again, found 'offline' and clicked on it which activated profile and went back to offline. Can you tell me how to go online!

e-Dicky said:" it should go in easily" - I've never had so much trouble before. I did as suggested and put it back - notched edge of the chip in its frame at the bottom right of tray.  If correctly inserted this time and it says I'm offline, would it still be able to access the Contacts list? Which is doesn't.
Can you tell me how to go online or this should happen once it recognises the sim?
I've spent too much time on this; I'm off to do some housework.

A SIM card tray has a corner in which the notched corner of the SIM fits, so there's only one way that you can insert it correctly. If you have been trying it 'every which way' it's not surprising that you find it difficult, and you may have caused damage.

What exactly do you mean by 'online'..?

With the SIM inserted correctly, does the phone display a network name and signal, or nothing..? Or what, exactly..?
