Has anybody ever downgraded a RBS reward account to the basic Select account ? Is it possible ? I don't need the ( minimal ) faff involved in earning rewards but would like to keep a relationship with RBS and if I could keep the same account number and sort code a Select account would seem the solution

when you downgrade your account the account number and sort code remain the same.
You can downgrade your account online anytime:
View our account range(opens in a new window)
Select the account you wish to have
Then select the 'Change my account' button
Choose to 'Change your existing account'
Then follow the application through, completing all the necessary steps
Alternatively you can call or visit a branch.
