Can someone please tell me the cost of placing a £40 Sainsbury’s Home Delivery order midweek, ie Tue, Wed and Thu and around midday, Sainsbury’s only seem to quote the cost of the delivery pass not the cost of the individual delivery on their website?

Annoyingly, Sainsbury’s refuse to provide the shopping in bags or box/s, and you have to provide them, consequently how does that work?  Do the drivers come to your door and place the shopping in your boxes or bags at you door, or do they take your bags or boxes to their van and fill them there?  What do they do when it’s chucking it down with rain!  BTW I am self isolating and so do not want to inter-react closely with the driver.

  • when you go to book your slot, its on a kinda graph. in the slot you choose it tells you the cost for that slot.

Just looked at my store and next Tues £4 day slots or £2 for at 7pm slot.
I have 3 laundry baskets and leave them outside and the driver places shopping in them.  You can add message for delivery when placing order, ie  Please place in baskets as vulnerable and ring bell when finished.  This is same with the other supermarket I get deliveries from.
I think Friday is a wee bit more.  But mid week is ok, plus the little green van by slot time show they have an other delivery close buy which I think is a great idea.
Hope this helps I too use Tesco and find quality about the same - but Sainsbury does not have the choice to comment on
alternatives as Tesco do, you only have the option to tick for alternative or not

I have ordered a large crate which I want to use, as long as the driver stands back, I would prefer to put the shopping in my crate myself, do you know if they will they let me do that?

I rarely have home delivery as going food shopping is what counts as my social life at the moment. 😁

I used it a few weeks ago when the 25% off wine offers were on. As another poster said, a sort of calendar appeared with prices. It was a bit like when booking flights (Remember that? 😉) where it tells you how much on each day. I can only assume that they only show what's still available.

When my order came, I just put wine boxes on the doorstep and the driver filled them before knocking on the door.

I could be wrong but I think my charge was removed because of the size of my order. 🤔

I can get a saver slot for £1 with Sainsbury’s. You pick a four hour window when your shopping will arrive . It’s cheaper than choosing a specific 1 hour window.

We have a saver delivery with Sainsbury's because we used them for a long time before the pandemic started. It's been well worth it for us.

They do put things like bleach and frozen food in very thin separate plastic bags but nothing else.

We just leave a square washing basket and a few bags for life, opened up, on the floor in front of the door and leave the delivery driver to fill them all. We don't stand over them or interfere at all, never have done. When they've finished they knock to let us know and we shout 'thank you!' through the window or door. It works for us and has done for a long time. We have health problems which means we can't help, nor would we in the current pandemic. Our city has also just gone into lockdown. We're very grateful for these deliveries. When delivered this way, we can take our time with getting the groceries indoors and it suits us now we have got used to it.

We've never really had any trouble. We were very disappointed when they stopped delivering in bags but it's fine.

Yes. In my experience, and I think the delivery drivers prefer that too. We can't do that as we have mobility problems but they are usually really obliging. If you keep the crate inside until they come, they will knock and should stand back and then you can tell them what you want to do.

P.S. when it rains they get wet. But we have a small overhang on our front door which keeps them a bit dry. We're also isolating and we don't ever have any contact with a driver. Shopping may get a bit wet but it's not been a major problem so far.

Just ask if they will put the box down to allow you to transfer the shopping to your box.

I don't see why they couldn't  accommodate that, depending how much you have ordered there could be 2, 3 or 4 crates so while your emptying one he brings another so rinse and repeat.

Let us know how you get on.

Wasty  - re the delivery and the driver.  Like Tesco there is a spot when finalizing order that gives option for delivery details for driver.  I ask for my items to be placed in my washing  baskets....but they would certainly do it your way and if you ask them to stand back they will.  With me they have 3-4 crates on a trolley so they will have to place one at a time on path etc for you to empty.  My road is very busy so I like to help situation and asking them to load my baskets, I also have a notice in plastic cover that I place in one basket asking them to place in basket then ring bell and I acknowledge through window.
    Always goes smoothly.
