Hacked?

My cousin, sent me a message, in Facebook Messenger, which was a video. On clicking on it, it took me to an adult site, (or so it looked like), which wanted me to sign in, which obviously, I didn't. He then told me, he'd been hacked, and all his contacts, had the same message. One of his contacts, suggested, because we clicked on the link, the hacker now has all our details, including bank details. In my case, this isn't true, as I don't do any online banking. I've changed my login details, for Facebook, but is that all I need to do. As I said, once I clicked the link, and the website opened, I closed it, and deleted the message.

  • I doubt that the sage who suggested that you have had all your details etc stolen. Which antivirus do you use normally?.  Run Malwarebytes free version , it gives you a 14 day premium trial which is not necessary and you can disable the real-time bits off, but it starts it anyhow, and then keeps nagging you it's turned off. Just run a scan and see what it finds and also it may be worth running adwarecleaner too.

I doubt it too, but I'll do as you suggest. I'm just running Windows Defender, which people on various forums, have said that's all that's needed. To be honest, I'm not too sure about that either.
  • Defender seems good enough to me , but will let you try the scan(s)

To be truly effective you need to be running Windows 10 when using Defender. If you are on anything else such as 7 or 8 then you should install a different anti virus programme.
