British Gas want to charge me for replacing their meter

Correct, you can't insist on a particular type of meter so there is nothing wrong with BG saying that they will charge for that service, but you can receive a smart meter for no charge but have it set in 'dumb' mode.Petriix said:I believe they can choose to fit a 'smart' meter but you can insist that it is in 'dumb' mode.

That's just semantics. As a member of the public I should just be able to say I don't a smart meter and customer services explain to me that I can have a smart meter set in dumb mode which is the same thing as they don't make dumb meters any more. BG never explained that, if even the facebook team knew that. I know from other sources the nitty gritty about smart meters and dumb meters. BG just said if I wanted a dumb meter then that would cost £125, no explanation, no but I could have smart set to dumb. That's misleading the customer.
