I got the same message and I entered before 3pm.
It’s simply a case of they’ve programmed the wrong message after you’ve entered. A weekly comp can’t start and end on the same day so it doesn’t explain it and it definitely ended before 5pm as they played the call at about 3:30 on Friday, if I remember correctly

You only get the message "

• You have reached the maximum number of entries for this Competition. This is a weekly competition. All entries are valid until 5pm on Friday. For more details see Item 8 of the above Terms & Conditions."

if you enter more than 8 times - page refreshes with that message above the name/phone text boxes. As Didoow says, someone has typed or cut and pasted the wrong text into the error message.

Also I doubt that it is only 8 entries when it is supposed to be finishing 18/12.

For some reason, that I will never understand, they put us to enter million times when a couple of times would do. Because if I enter 8 times and everyone else enters 8 times as well,  all we have is one chance, so entering twice would do just in case once wouldn't get in for some "glitch"...

Also "Monday: opens at 6:00am on Monday, closes at 3:00pm on Monday"

And further  continues:

"Tuesday: opens at 3:10pm on Monday, closes at 3:00pm on Tuesday" etc, etc

Why would it need  a daily closure with no further explanation ?

I'm going for the glitch...and like anyone else have to wait to see what happens.

I hope I'm making sense and made myself understood.

You forget that it covers paid entries too. The terms say entries only roll over if that day isn't won, you need to enter daily, it's NOT weekly and never has been, not to mention the prizes change daily which makes weekly impossible. 
How long have we been doing these?

Yes, but I don’t know how they’ll find out, I haven’t risked it myself. I think they’ll investigate by seeing if IP addresses match.
