USB to HDMI????

Asking for a friend.... is there such a thing as a USB to HDMI converter, please?
I have an old model Sony Handycam (that doesn't have an HDMI socket) that I want to set up as a webcam for streaming church services.
I can get a gizmo that will handle the streaming bit but that is HDMI input to USB output that goes into the laptop. But I need to get the camera USB into HDMI to connect the two together.
I can find one that is HDMI female, USB male. I need it the other way around!

Not a streaming expert but why not plug the Sony Handycam's USB streaming port directly into the laptop?0

Yes, no, sort of.
You can get USB-HDMI convertors for computers
However they will not work on a camcorder as the usb socket on the camera is the wrong type & only designed for sending files to/from the computer not the cameras video output. ie you could do the filming & when finished send the file to the PC
The camera should have other video outputs which you could use but would require a different "capture device" to the USB/HDMI one you have.
Which model of Handycam is it? It may have a mini-HDMI socket (that looks more like a USB socket than a HDMI socket) or a proprietary Sony one in which case you can get an adaptor

It's also possible (although unlikely as its an "old model Sony Handycam") that you can just plug it straight into the PC via USB & use it as webcam1

Thanks, I have passed all this on.1

She has come back and said both those, like all the others she can find are no good, she needs a lead with a USB socket, not plug. She has now decided it will be easier to buy a new camera and go with that!
