Product recall

My mum received a letter from Argos last week telling her that there is a fault with a Flymo lawn mower that she bought around 18 months ago, it says that some customers have complained of electric shocks when using the mower so they are all being recalled and to return the mower to your nearest store for a refund.

Not a problem however, both my parents are pensioners and dont drive and neither do I, she expained this to the person on the helpline and after them advising her to order a taxi to return it

they reluctantly gave her a number to call to arrange a pick up, she rang this number today and was on the call for well over 30mins, is there any way that she can claim any consequential losses as its not her fault that the item is being recalled?

Also, no-one including 2 members of staff instore and the lady on the phone could tell her how or when she would receive a refund, ive told her that when they call to collect it that she must get proof that theyve taken it, but has anyone had anything similar?

Hi squiggle on the customer service page they have a list of the product recalls including the Flymo's.
Hope thing's get fixed for your mum, she should def ask for costs of call's etc to reimbursed, think Argos shoul pay for that or Flymo.

A payment for consequential losses ie expenses incurred ie cost of 30 min phone call (which if it was to Argos may have been an 0870 no = not cheap) is not the same as compensation.

Dont see what they can claim to be honest, Argos are willing to collect something they do not have to do, seems quite fair IMO

The OP didn't say it was an 0870 number.

online dictionary - compensation: the act of giving money or something else to pay for loss, damage, or work done

They are the same thing. Stop confusing the issue!!!

Yes but i used a number off saynoto0870.com and a contracted electrical repair man came to my house at my convenience to repair it. My cables were not rubbing but they cable tied them anyway.
Your parents are lucky because most purchases can't be traced. They must have ordered online or taken out insurance or something for them to have the purchasers details. If you paid cash at a DIY store there would have been no chance.
