Bank drafts

Anyone know if a bank draft processed 2014 by bank of Scotland can still be viewed historically? Bank say they cannot trace it. How can I get a copy of the draft. Is this possible?

Comments

  • IMO absolutely no chance.
I would think that all cheques (of which a bank draft essentially is) would be pulped after 3 years.
Is this a draft you asked the bank to prepare for you or one that you paid into your account?
  • No I am trying to trace a draft that came out my late aunts account in 2014. This was done by the attorney. Banks are obliged to keep records for 7 years, they can go further back though in special circumstances. I am her executor. Attorney has not divulged any information.

Why do you believe banks are obliged to keep records of cheques / drafts fot 7 years?

    No they are not.

Can we ask how much the draft was for?
    Have you asked the attorney?
Was it out of an account that would normally have a cheque book or a savings account>?
    Sorry more questions no answers.

The bank it was processed too might have the details of it. But it is going to depend on if they have a electronic image of it. Anything paper related will have been destroyed. Due to the costs of storage.
Certainly the bank it came from will not keep a copy.
6 years is about the most banks keep stuff for, but things like cheques are all digitised & imaged now, onto  banks systems and paper is destroyed.
