PPI Claim for work done

I used JPS Financial for reclaiming ppi. They made it sound so easy. They phoned and asked for everybody who I had credit cards or loans with. I have now received an invoice from them saying that it has become apparent that I have already attempted a claim previously. I was not aware of this but it may have been true as I have been approached by several "No-Win No-Fee" companies. Anyway they want £190 within 7 days for 4 hours of work that they say they carried out in line with my claim. They also threaten that if I don't pay within 7 days they will add on further charges. Can anybody offer any advice on what I can do. I have tried phoning but they say they cannot discuss over the phone. I have Emailed and also sent a text to them but no reply!!

It is quite common for CMCs to have a time waster clause in their contracts that allows them to charge for work done where the person has already made previous complaints. Your option is to either pay it or make a complaint to the CMC (and then the FOS if necessary) saying why you think they are wrong for charging it.
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
If you signed a contract where the terms said they were entitled to charge you if you had already put in a complaint / search and you had already used a company to do this search then yes you are liable for their charges for wasting their time.
Whether £47.50 an hour for some minimum wage call centre staff member to post out a few template letters (they won't have rung anyone up) is justified is another matter.
If you know you used another firm already, pay up or expect debt chasers and eventually a CCJ with associated fees0
