Checkatrade favour and publish mainly positive reviews only

After spending several days trying to give an honest and factual review of some dreadful customer service from a Checkatrade recommended roofer - and then unsuccessfully wrestling with the Checkatrade complaints process - I wanted to share my feedback here. The review that I wrote, highlighting the poor service and dreadful communication of the roofer will not be published by Checkatrade, as I did not pay anything to the roofer in question.  The appointment was made, confirmed on 2 other occassions and the roofer failed to appear on the day and time agreed. The roofer then called me several hours later, and said that the work would need to be planned for another day. I had already waited 6 days to have the 300mm x 200mm hole in my roof repaired, so I found another excellent roofer to do the work - same day. When trying to leave feedback and a rating for the original roofer, I found that Chechatrade will not publish my feedback - as no work was done and no money was paid. (??)  If Checkatrade will not publsih real customer experience feedback regarding poor service, then why should we trust their website ?  I get the feeling that Checkatrade only wants to publish good news - and is not really interested in customer experience.  Disappointing overall.

Who do you think is paying Checkatrade to keep their service running?  Hint, it's not you.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
  • Checkatrade are a nightmare and complete waste of time and money!  I posted a roofing repair job on their website and subsequently employed a roofer who responded to my post.  He attended briefly on two separate occasions, on neither of which he repaired my leaking roof (just plugged the holes with silicone) yet in good faith I had paid him £1,350, of which he has since refused to refund even half to me.  I have tried to claim on Checkatrade´s guarantee - rubbish!  They keep denying my claim, stating that I have not produced any evidence that I employed the roofer through their website!!!!! Crooks the lot of them!
