Is there any reason he would lie to you?
I think you'll just have to trust him, even though it might be a pain having him at home.1 -
Our HR department told us that under the new scheme we can only claim for furloughed employees for a minimum of seven days but they must be consecutive?Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0

Sorry they can now be on flexible furlough ??
We just got this from our HR
The rules for calculating pay are the same as under the previous scheme for all staff who were eligible for that scheme (i.e. because they appeared on your RTI on or before 19 March 2020). It doesn’t matter if you furloughed these staff previously or not. It is the fact of being eligible for furlough last time around which determines the pay calculation method.
So, to break it down:
- For employees on a fixed salary who were eligible for furlough before, pay is based on 80% of salary as at 19 March 2020.
- For employees on a fixed salary who were not eligible for furlough before, pay is based on 80% of October salary.
- For variably paid employees who were eligible for furlough before, pay is based on 80% of the higher of (i) the same period’s earnings from 2019; or (ii) average earnings from the 2019-20 tax year.
- For variably paid employees who were not eligible for furlough before, pay is based on 80% of average wages payable between 6 April 2020 (or from their start date if later) and the day before they were furloughed.
All of the above are still subject to the overall cap of £2,500 per month.
These rules mean that you may be paying someone who has taken a pay cut or hours reduction since March more to be on furlough than they would be getting whilst in work. It also means that staff on the minimum wage who were employed since the pandemic started will be furloughed at a higher rate than those who have worked for you longer. In other words, there are winners and losers here.
Any hours that employees do work for you as part of flexible furlough, you pay them as normal, and you need to keep a record of the hours worked.
Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0 -

The claim period is a minimum of 7 days but the work pattern can be flexible.
"Flexible furlough agreements
There is no minimum furlough period, agreed flexible furlough agreements can last any amount of time. Employees can enter into a flexible furlough agreement more than once.
Although flexible furlough agreements can last any amount of time, unless otherwise specified the period that you claim for must be for a minimum claim period of seven calendar days. "

My son in law works for a well known company (not mentioning the name here) there's 5 others that work together, 3 were furloughed and the others weren't, including him. The manager told them to think of it as an extremely good thing that they weren't furloghed because it can only mean their job is safe. The same probably applies to your son.
