TV Licence refund for holiday flat during covid-19

Hi,

I would appreciate some feedback from forum members if they have tried to get a refund for their holiday home tv licence during this year's covid pandemic which has prevented holiday home owners from travelling.

I am currently living in England and possess a tv licence for my holiday home in Swansea, Wales.

Owing to lockdown either in England or Wales I have been unable to travel from England to Swansea, Wales and as such no person/s have stayed at my holiday home on the dates of the covid lockdown in either country.

Would members know if I am entitled to a refund of my holiday home's tv licence.

Thanks very much

If you have a second address you can get a refund on a TV licence as long as:
    1. It's for 3 or more consecutive months
    2. The refund is requested before the first of those months start.

So, for instance, if your TV licence was issued on 1st January, the latest date you can request a refund is 30th September and that would mean for the period 1st October to 31st December the property would not have a licence.

Also, those aren't special conditions for COVID-19, if normally you don't use your holiday home between the months of January and March you can buy a TV licence starting on 1st April and get a refund for the last 3 months.

    Certainly not possible retrospectively.
If the TV is still there, I understand you need a licence anyway.
  • Thanks very much for your comments, much appreciated
  • You could argue that you couldn’t get to the property from March to July 2020 then you maybe could until October (or when Wales went into lockdown again).  So working it all out, how much would you think you would be entitled to?  What £65?  Is it worth the trouble?  Only you can decide.
