  • Is there anything wrong with the bank you have a private account with now?
They will know you better than anyone.

Some banks will open a second account for you (personal) as long as you do not have loads of cheques and cash going through it and any cheques of course would have to be made out to you not to any trading name.

Go for an account that is free. Abbey offer free banking forever. Alliance & Leicester offer free banking for start ups for 2 years, then switching to their free current account (so long as £1000 per month is paid in).

I've just gone through a similar thing and opted for A&L initially, but they don't pay credit interest on their start up account, and are really hard to get hold of on their helplines, so I've decided to give Abbey a try.

Other high street banks I think also offer free banking for an initial period, but then start charging for paying in cheques, writing cheques, depositing cash etc. My advice would be to look at all the charges and go for the one that will work out cheapest for you initially.

So open a second seperate account with the same bank.
They know you, you know them, and when you have to go into the bank you 'll need only queue the once!
