HELP... I left my job last week to start a new one yesterday, I then came down with symptoms on Sunday, had a test and had positive result today, obviously this meant I couldn't start my new job, the employer has therefore ceased my contract. I am a single parent with a mortgage, now no job and in isolation with covid! What help/advice is out there... I have applied to my local authority for the financial support grant but what else can I do?

Check your benefits entitlement via one of the calculators such as entitled to or turn2us.Beware though if you are currently claiming tax credits and you decide to claim universal credit instead then your tax credits claim will stop.0

New style ESA if you've paid the correct amount of NI contributions in tax years April 2017 to March 2019. It pays £74.25 per week, which you can claim while isolating. Other than that as advised, it's universal credit. You won't receive any help with the mortgage though until 9 consecutive months with zero income when claiming UC and even then it's a loan which needs to be repaid back.Use a benefits calculator to check entitlement.0

What type of job / industry sector is the new job that the OP was meant to start in?
Is there any merit in the OP engaging with the new job to try to start in a fortnight? Or after lockdown?0
