WE HAVE PROBATE

Original thread below - around 24 weeks to get probate...........
I'm not sure what I was expecting, but a grey envelope with mud on it squished through the letter box wasn't it.  I thought it would at least come recorded.....
Inside however was a piece of white paper embossed with a logo/stamp/, and
WE HAVE PROBATE!
Hang on in there guys, it does happen!

Well done! When I got probate for Mother's estate, they forget to address the envelope and the PO had to open it to see what it was, reckon bit of mud is OK

  • Very happy for you...and it gives me hope! Although it's a pretty straightforward set of circumstances, we chose to go through a solicitor to deal with the Will and probate after dad passed in April. House had already been sold, etc., and probate was applied for (by solicitor) first week of July. We're still waiting. Sigh!

That gives me a current timescale, thanks.  Did it all on-line today & posted the will for tracked delivery before 1pm today.

Putting house on the market subject to probate tomorrow, & told other beneficiaries everything may take 6-8months or more.

I'll be glad to be able to just quitely wait now. I don't want to do any more of these, this is the 3rd time!

Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

There are no guarantees (or reason) regarding timescales.  My father died on 6 June, probate was granted on 3 September, 10 days after applying.  Estate £600K, no house.

Mine was because the probate office lost the Original Will in their building.  I linked to my original post but understand people might not have read it.
People on here were so kind, I thought I'd just offer an update.

I liked the long wait possibility timescale, (pre covid we got one done in 3 weeks, but those days are probably long gone), because beneficieries are already 'enquiring', my mother only died 11 days ago!

I think it can be useful to get people to focus on things other than the bequest.

Good luck with that!  If they are already focusing on the money I would suggest a comment along the lines of basic probate is currently taking over 6 months due of course to Covid.  Let it be actually useful for once & get people off your back.  If it comes back earlier then you can ask for congratulations for having pulled it off.

Sadly, the prospect of inherited money does strange things to some people.
