When we bought a car the dealership provided a warranty from Warranty Assist.

A few months after we bought it  the  weather got hot and we discovered the air conditioning was blowing warm air.

The local garage thought it just needed re gassed but then discovered the pump had broken,

When they contacted the warranty company for authority to repair it they were told that was not covered. When my husband phoned them they said they only covered catastrophic failure.  A pump stopping working was not catastrophic failure.

Husband phoned the garage we bought the car from and they agreed it should be covered.. They said to bring the car to them, they would repair it and fight it out with the warranty company. The girl added she was quite used to fighting with them to get payments.

  • Warranty cos job is to pay out as little as possible because profit above all else and not surprising genuine claims are rejected, been said many times on this forum avoid them and put the money in a cash savings account just in case

    +1

Third Party warranties are almost always not worth the paper they are written on.

My step son had a BMW timing chain failure which required a new engine. It went through the process with Warranties 2000 who refused to pay based on the fact he continued to drive it whilst broken.

They agreed it could go through the FOS complaints procedure (I am an insurance professional) and I was so relieved when the FOS found in our favour and ordered Warranties 2000 to deal with the claim (c. £7k).

My joy turned to despair when i found out Big Motoring world had flogged a £999 warranty with an any one claim limit of £1,000 and an excess of £100. Very clearly this had been mis-sold but the FOS said he should have read the paperwork properly (which had never been properly sent). If PPI is treating customers unfairly how can it be right to sell a product for a grand that only pays a grand.

These are not properly regulated products, it is BIG themselves who finance it and it is just a front to steal money back on competitively priced cars.

The best advice - if it is financed go through the section 75 Consumer Credit process - it is far better.
