son moving into first house cant get comparison quotes

Hi, sons moving into his first house in a couple of weeks, cant seem to get any of the comparison sites to work as they all insist on entering existing supplier.
Wasn't sure if the quote would take into account his existing supplier and any cost for the energy company for switching, or whether he can just put a random company in there to get some quotes?
Many thanks

Pick any company, standard tariff and then ignore all the savings figures and concentrate on total annual cost. Is the property gas/electricity or electricity only? If both, go for separate suppliers.
He must sign up with existing supplier(s) on moving in day first, then think about switching to other suppliers after that. Photograph all meter readings and don't get talked into a tariff with exit fees with the existing supplier.2 -
@Iwanttobefree Your son will have to take a guesstimate for his consumption. What is the heating, type, age of property ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1

Thanks, thinking about it it's obvious he must initially use same supplier, but it never crossed my mind2 bedroom mid terraced property was built about 1900 it is of traditional construction with narrow cavity brick walls and a slated dual pitched main roof. There are mainly timber suspended floors installed throughout the property. The windows and doors comprise of replacement UPVC double glazed frames fitted throughout.
Gas central heating, new boiler installed March this year. Only him living there, but working from home at the moment. The way things are going, soon we are all going to be victims of something or other.

As said, you are only interested in the cost not any savings so put a wet finger in the air and make a guess - tha'ts what the comparison sites do if you dont give them an estimate.
A good starting figure is 3000kwh for leccy and 12,000kwh for gas to get you a rough idea of the comparison costs. Just make sure that he registers with the existing suppliers on the day he moves in and gives them meter reading, once that has been done he is free to move suppliers.
Its a good idea to take photo's of the meters and to save the meter readings just in case of queries in the future (he doesn't want to be paying for the last tenant/owner's gas, leccy or water bills.)
He should also get into the habit of reading the meters every month, sending in the readings to his supplier and checking that the bills/on-line account are up to date and properly reflecting his consumption (even if he's got smart meters). he'll then know what he's using, how much it's costing and whether his account is in order. It only takes 10 minutes a month but can save hours of grief in the future. It's also recommended to download and save PDF's of the bills.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers1
