This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still quite dark, but wet underfoot as we had heavy rain for a while during the late evening last night. It's still quite mild though.
DH up and getting ready for work, as is DS1. I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was LO's from the roast, so none of those left - I added some more veg and made some gravy - all eaten and enjoyed. I remembered to get the chicken out to defrost - that's what we're having for tonight's dinner - possibly with a sauce and rice.
Yesterday work wasn't too bad, busy at times then some quiet - we'll see how it goes today.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all Todays excitement is the delivery of the new bed frame it was supposed to be Friday but is now today so my living room is the new storage area luckily i did the floor wash yesterday it arriving anytime from 7-7 so i was up with DS and DH again this morning who were recreating the march of the baby elephants . Yesterday the boiler was serviced and a seal replaced something that needs doing every 5 years so all good there . DD1 and her BF have decided to take a break from each other after 12 years this is the second time last time he was paying attention to someone else , I would really like to see him leave the flat for at least 6 months so she can get some head space but it is difficult times at the moment . Throughout all this i am pleased we insisted she bought the flat in her name only so i know she has no problem there she has lost a vast amount of weight in the last year but seems to have several hang ups so hopefully at the end of lockdown he will go and she can get herself on track she needs to know her worth anyway as parents we can just be there but it is a worry . I shall be truly glad to see the back of this year .
Hester I hope Steve is a little better today anniversaries are hard
Tru Hope the back is better and you are spending your time productively practicing Carols
Ruby fingers crossed for the house sale and hope the clean up wasn't too horrific
I have also sent up a silent prayer to the washing machine gods as a few people seem to be having problems in that department
Right better get the dog walked before the delivery comes . Have a good day one and all xx

Good morning, seems dry here. Thanks for starting NMLC.Redruby. hope your sore throat hasn't developed further, and that your pre op goes ahead.Nelski, have you tried threatening your washer - sometimes if you're too nice they think they can do what they like. Try mentioning the tip.Nanny you'll be kicking your heels up now you're free!We bought a sink yesterday, who knew buying sinks would be so hard, but the tap I wanted was out of stock in one place, but i think we'll get it somewhere else today, what a carry on, you would think sinks and taps were unusual items.I haven't had a bad night for once, but sometimes I have difficulty getting off to sleep, then difficulty staying asleep! as I've said before, sleep and I have relationship problems. However, I'll stop nattering on, and wish everyone a good Tuesday - fingers crossed you are ok Ruby, take care folks16

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc. I too had the leftovers of Sunday's dinner last night, so quick and easy.
bella - sorry your DD is having problems, I'm sure with your support she will sort herself out.
RR - hope your sore throat has gone and yesterday wasn't too traumatic.
How are you today tru?
Sorry for those of you with WM woes, that's one thing I really couldn't be without I don't think.
I dragged myself for a swim last night and was glad I had after, I've booked in again for tonight, only takes an hour to get there, have a swim and get home so no excuses really.
Hope you all have a good day, take care. XX14 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Yet another stupid o'clock wake up for me. I am getting fed up of them now as I pay by dozing off later in the day. I am thinking it could be lack of fresh air. We have had nothing but fog for days now and it's hardly the sort of weather that tempts you outside.
Another day of same old same old here. Nowhere to go nobody to see. The news of a vaccine sounds hopeful and can't come soon enough. I've spoken to a few folks of a similar age hereabouts throughout the pandemic and two have previously said they definitely won't have one. It takes all sorts. Yesterday was a day of eating the weekend's leftovers so I need to poke my nose in the freezer next and see what tempts me for today's meals.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need. BELLA so sorry you have worries over your DD's relationship. We never stop worrying about them do we no matter what their age. REDRUBY I hope your sore throat was a one day event and you are ok today for your pre-op, Take care one and all and stay safe. xx

Morning
redruby Fingers crossed for you today! xx
I slept for four hours in a row, I feel a bit more human this morning. I managed to get a couple of small jobs done yesterday and ended up staying out longer than I'd planned on our walk, Scamp bumped into one of his mates so they walked together for a while. I think the fresh air did me some good, also my muscles have loosened up so moving around is a lot easier.
The shopping is coming just before lunch, I hope it all arrives – not sure if there's panic buying going on? It's mostly just my normal shop, I'll be a bit miffed if there's no bread or something. I did throw in a couple of tubs of Christmas sweeties, I hope they aren't subbed, I'm quite specific about my Christmas things, lol.

Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
Raining again here, I'm hoping it might stop later as I think I've now had all the rain I want to see for a little while. If it does stop, I'll have a walk.
Hester, thinking about you and Steve.
Bella I'm quite relieved that I'm not the only one to be subjected to tge March of the baby elephants. I also get the re-enactment of the warthog washing hole in the bathroom and the regular replay of three bears having a party banging pans in the kitchen.
What I have not mentioned here, at least I don't think so, is my husband whistling. He can't sing but he is a very good whistler and he does it all the time, he says he doesn't know he's doing it. I wouldn't mind but he seems to whistle Christmas carols all year round, he's obviously channelling tru, and then segues into various other things, often including what I can only describe as songs from the shows. He has not, to my knowledge been to a musical in his entire life. Yesterday it was God Rest You Merry Gentlemen, There is a Tavern in the Town, Z cars theme tune and I forget the rest. All whistled tunefully in a continuous loop. Am waiting to see what gems today brings. I might write them down. We haven't had We Three Kings for a few days, nor O Little Town of Bethlehem. If I could whistle, I'd whistle something completely different at the same time for a squeaky cacophony. But I can't.
Yesterday I cleaned the kitchen windows but I can only do this by climbing on the worktop and kneeling, which is very painful with arthritic knees and they are a bit smear so I might nerve myself to do them again once I've done the ones in the dining room. And some washing to do.
Nelski you could tell your washing machine what happened to mine, two men took it away and it has been replaced by a younger model. That'll give it something to think about.
I might carry on with sewing up this bear before people get up and start thumping around. Still, the first thumping around is usually accompanied by a cup of tea for me so complaining would be ungracious.
I'm waiting for a delivery of birdseed, the last lot was from Mr morry and the birds don't like it much, they prefer the posh stuff that comes from Germany via hamazoon. Well, they would.
Saw what will probably be the last bat of the season just as it was getting dark last night. It flittered, off over my outhouse roof, no idea where they roost.
That's enough wittering on from me, hope you all have a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back15 -
Best wishes for today Redruby.AOD I truly think whistling is going out of fashion! You’re lucky with your DH. I love hearing a good whistle.Hope a good day all x15

Morning all
Weather is dire again here damp and overcast but its not raining for once its not too cold either so could be worse.
I still have a very slight sore throat but it has got no worse I phoned the breast nurse yesterday and she said as long as it doesnt get worse to come in so I shall go and straight home after, thank you for all the good wishes, Taff I keep meaning to say thank you for the tip re the tape and drains I have got some so will remember to tape them down, I also have the lovely bags that Camelot made me to take in to hold the bottles.
Yesterdays house clean went quite well, the evil ex actually did us a favour by removing everything out of the house and I do mean everything even the brand new fridge / freezer that dd bought and he smashed up the day she left and then threw it in the garden where it has sat ever since and he said dd would have to moveit had gone along with most of the light bulbs in the house
we spent most of the day there dd did up stairs and I cleaned the kitchen and outside area, the kitchen had not been cleaned since dd lived there so was in a complete state, it is much better now and at least liveable, we will go back tomorrow and give it another airing, there is also the lodgers van still in the driveway which seems to be broken down but needs moving before Thursday !! only a few more days hopefully !!
Dinner tonight will be summer in winter chicken so nice and easy and very tasty, I think this afternoon will be spent on the sofa as I was so tired after yesterday.
Bella I am sorry your dd is having trouble with her partner I hope she can work it out in her head and find peace, thank goodness the house is in her name, this is something my dd will do with her next purchase xxx
Hester I hope Steve is ok xx
Have good days all xx15 -
Morning
Laughing at the advice on words to be had with the washing machine....aod that's exactly what nearly happened!
Inexplicably the words or something worked and the two runs yesterday worked perfectly. I have my beady eye on it now though and have my new model picked out just in caseI may treat it to a calgon run ....I guess its like a spa day for a washing machine.
Great news on the vaccine there are some impressive people out there who can sort this awful situation.
Today I plan to cull my wardrobes ready for the charity pick up tomorrow. Like most women I probably only wear 10% of my clothes if that so its time to say bye bye to some stuff I know I'll never wear again.
Food tonight will be a mac and cheese with some garlic bread
Have a great day all

Morning all! Dull and dreary with a chance of showers every two minutes here. Not much going on to speak of. OHs mum dropped some stuff off yesterday to keep in my greenhouse over winter [ she hasn't got one] and I gave my new excercise video a go, I managed twenty mintues of not very much excercise at all and then floofed on the sofa. Had a two hour video chat with a friend in Spain and watched a lot of programmes. I might make a start on filling the boot with stuff, it's all dry stuff so hopefully I'll avoid the old condensation on the windscreen that happens. And I keep going back to my shopping basket online, taking things away and adding different things, provisionally booking a slot and then thinking, well, I'm not actually out of anything so maybe I'll wait a bit more for a later date. The milk came with a leaflet of things available for Christmas this morning so I may go an order some stuff, like cream, which hadn't occurred to me I could order but which I should have known so that might make things a bit easier because it's always the little things I forget to buy.So really, nothing has happened, nothing is going to happen, except the pergola is finally finished, we put the second side up on Sunday in amogst the rain...Looks like a big black goth box. I've put on a picture so I can show you it exists...
and it had a wonky seam on the one side because because that was the first one I sewed and I wasn't used to the material and it was a pig to sew, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Apologies for slab pile, they're going in front of it where the rain falls off the roof and around the garage door. This will be the third time I'll have reused them somewhere else in the garden.
Ruby, hope the throat goes away soon! And commiserations for having to clean the house and what an absolute a*se he was! Bella, good luck to your daughter, and yes, lucky it is in her name. AOD, I'm struggling to not hear a demented budgerigar, you have the patience of a saint! I'm liking the general threatening of washing machines, I used to do that with my van, I'd shout 'Breakers Yard!' at it every so often. Hoe those who are having problems with sleep get sleep stick smacked, and commiserations to those feeling out of sorts or in pain...Take it easy Tuesday all!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi12
