Are there grants for start ups?

Hello
Im unsure if this is the right place for this, so apologies if not.

A friend and I are researching starting up a little company but we probably require £2-3k to set it up.

I was wondering if there are any grants available for this?

thank you

There's a lot of information on the internet if you just google 'grants for start up business' or something similar.

    For example - https://startups.co.uk/small-business-grants/

You can also get loans from the government but obviously grants are better as you don't have to repay them.
Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. • do you mean a limited company?
are you really unable to fund 3k between 2 people? If so, good luck with convincing a bank to lend you money if the company is short of such a trivial sum and its founders unable to finance that amount themselves as director loans.

Whilst i take your point, they did ask about grants, not loans and they didnt say they couldnt otherwise raise the money.

If grants are available to cover all or part of it, why would you not?

  • Thank you for your replies.
We could possibly cover the money, but there will be other costs we will need to cover so just wondered what support there was.
The business is connected to COVID, so I wondered on that angle, although it should be viable to continue after COVID (if we ever see that!).
OldBikeBloke - I would never call thousands of pounds trivial.
I will look at the links provided.
    Thanks again.

When setting up a business, £2,000 - £3,000 is not a lot of money, especially between 2 people.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

you never answered the question : limited company or not?
£1,500 per person as working capital for a Ltd Co is trivial. You are in for a shock if you do start up and don't appreciate that fact.

There is a possible grant for start-up businesses.  Eligibility is dependent on current employment status, so I ask again
What is your current employment status?

Most business grants are linked to taking on more staff and generally providing employment.  That includes providing employment for yourself, so if you are presently unemployed, or on benefits you might be able to get a grant.  I think that is what Grumpy_chap was eluding to when he asked about your current employment status.

Indeed, but the OP won't say.
If eligible, NEA would provide the full amount the OP seeks.  Double if both partners qualify (not sure if NEA rules would permit that).
