@Frugalistamama - have you got a Lidl near you?  They do £1.50 boxes of mixed fruit and veg; I've had a few of the boxes and they are definitely good value - I'd say at least £5-6 worth.  The last one I got was mainly fruit and it was all good quality - there was far too much for us so I took some of it to DD1 (I should add this was before lockdown!).

Trouble is the Lidl one is not a regular box, just whatever is left over and due to be binned anyway and not something to rely on like a regular delivery or made up box like the Morries wonky veg
I've only ever seen them once in my Lidl, and TBH I've put better on my compost heap

@Farway I think you must just been unlucky.  I've had 3 or 4 boxes and all have been good and not had to throw any away, although admittedly some needs to be used within a day or two.  In fact from my last box I've still got a few easy peelers and a couple of pink lady apples plus a pack of 6 golden delicious and I got that box about 2 weeks ago.

  • My local veg box is very good produce and very reliable. The trouble is DH will only eat certain veg, nothing fancy or new, so I gave some of it to my daughter. During the first lockdown we found we were getting too much even though we both eat  veg every day. I had to stop making things like spag bol as it didn't use enough veg up.
