So switching is supposed to be easy?
Two months ago I tried to change my supplier from EDF to British Gas.
The gas has gone through fine. The electric has not.
British Gas say that they haven't had a request to change the supply in one breath and in the next they say that EDF has blocked the move. I am going round in circles and losing the will to live. I made a formal complaint to British Gas and got a response to say they don't deal with this issue by complaint and to contact them via live chat. Well I would if I could but it is not available most of the time and if I do manage to get connected they disconnect me before I manage to speak to anyone. I have told EDF that I will not be paying them a penny more for any electric used. I have spent about 20 hours of my time on this so far.
Has anybody got any suggestions on how to sort this out please?

Welcome to the forum. Not a good idea to stop paying EDF, especially as it may not be their fault and they may not have blocked you from leaving, it could be BG just passing the buck. You'll end up on an expensive standard tariff and they will block any move until the debt has been settled.Just switch the electricity again, perhaps to a different supplier.1

As separate supplies are generally (financially) better - initiate a switch with another company which offers a better tariff than BGNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1

Find out why they blocked the move - in my case an admin error. Take the complaint to EDF as they are the ones that have erroneously blocked the move (assuming it is in error)
I had the same problem with npower when I moved into a property, they were the incumbent supplier, I immediately initiated a switch and they blocked electricity switch but allowed the gas. Said the reason was that I had commenced a switch to npower (ie themselves!). I complained, then a few weeks later my new supplier wrote to say "sorry you are leaving" for my gas supply as npower had initiated a switch. Both were done without my permission which breaks the regulation so I had a strong argument.
Complaint letter to npower setting out all the facts along with a copy to the ombudsman and a few phone calls later and it was sorted - got the charges for energy from moving in waived and supply moved to new supplier - probably saved about £100 so was worth the admin to deal with it.
