in Credit cards
Hi everyone,
I have never had a credit card before but thought I should get one to start building a credit score in case I ever want to get a mortgage. I'm 25, have no debt and I would be able to pay off any purchases immediately as I have a steady income.
I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to credit cards so any suggestions would be welcome!
Thanks

Your own bank or a sub prime lender such as aqua or Vanquis.
Remember not to focus on building your score, but to build some good history of credit management, which is what lenders will be looking for.
If you do get a card, remember to wait for the statement before paying in full.1 -
Start by having a look at your credit files - your credit record isn't just about credit cards and will include utilities, phone contracts, bank accounts, etc, so have a look at how the three agencies see you: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/check-free-credit-report/
There are sub-prime cards suited to those with thin credit records, so you may find options at https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/bad-credit-credit-cards/, with an eligibility checker linked from there to review your prospects, or you can try the wider checker at https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/eligibility/credit-cards/search/0 -
Any credit card will do., your own bank, subprime, prime or anything in between. Run eligibility check on lenders websites, not on comparison sites and apply for whatever you have the highest chance of getting. Subprime lenders APR % is irrelevant as you are prepared to clear the balance in full, just make sure you either set full amount DD or clear manually.0
