I think the not profitable refers to the fact you have no balance and therefore your not paying interest to them.Ibbo4750 said:The reply..." Your not a profitable customer. Simple" I assume you mean old. Unfortuently everyone get's there in the end!! even Bankers. I just feel that having been a Barclaycard holder all my working life and used it !! To have my card basically closed just because my balance is nil, and during a pandemic is shocking.
Have you spoken to them and asked if they would considering giving you a higher limit?0 -
If you aren't spending on it (thus no merchant fees) and have no balance then they don't make any money. There doesn't seem any point you having you having the card if you don't use it, S75 cover is only useful if you actually buy on it.2

Stop taking it so personally when it isn't. You had a large limit with them which you weren't using and which wasn't earning them interest, or you don't presently have an income of a level which they consider a smart amount to lend £14,500 on and they are rectifying their previously over-generous allocation. They've done this to make both you and them safer and at less risk of losing money. They've long been seen as tight-arsed and now seem to be getting even more so. Despite being with them for years, using good chunks of money on the card and with a perfect payment record, they've been very obstinate about raising my own limit above a paltry amount, while another provider happily raised my limit to double Barclaycard's limit within a couple of months.
You do not have a god-given right to a £14,250 limit, you have not earned it, and you don't deserve it just for being 73 or for having worked all your life. Credit card companies get to decide how they lend THEIR money; not you. I'm not trying to be mean here, just pointing out that credit isn't automatically handed out as rewards for virtue.
I think you really just wanted to get onto a soap box and shake your fist at banks (which is fine) but if you genuinely want S75 cover, just pay the first £1 of it on your credit card and the rest can be done by debit card.1
