Presumably you have registered with BG and obtained new cards for the meters?  A debt may have built up (yes, it can happen, e.g. if the property has been empty) which may block a switch.
Ask BG for a deadlock letter by return, them go to the ombudsman upon receipt or after eight weeks if they don't send one.
You could also switch to EDF who don't do a credit check.  Check all the credit reference agencies to make sure there's nothing strange on your files.

British Gas failed my credit check for no reason too. They seem to do that often. I simply changed suppliers, to EDF, and they changed it for me.

I doubt the Ombudsman is going to have much to say about what they will see as a commercial judgement call, not worth waiting for the outcome though, just switch and get it sorted elsewhere.

BG have form for being very hard nosed with Paygo to Credit meter swaps.
Best bet is to change your supplier - EDF are far more relaxed, but with Covid the swap request could take some time
