LarryR said: It says 'Used so far this week: 347kWh' which does seem very high. We're a family of 4 in a 5 bedroom detached house in North London. Two independent adults here in a 3 bed semi - Over the last week we have used around 40KWh of electricity. 350KWh for just 7 days sounds excessive - Are you sure the immersion heater is actually turned off ?Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -
OP, stop worrying about 7 days usage. Just go back to your bills a year apart and tell us the kWh usage over an approx 12m period. That is the only figure that matters, and you don't need a smart meter to get it.No free lunch, and no free laptop1

We're a family of 4 in a 5 bedroom detached house in North London. As Mac said go on EDF site and get your actual usage, dont need a smart meter. Since you havent submitted accurate readings prepare for a shock.347kw 1 week is about what to expect in colder months. Average usage for a 3 bed detached is around 2800kwh per year, i am 3524kwh per year, you will be much higher in 5 bed.0 -
Kids at school, wife out, just me and dog here now. All lights off, TVs and radios off, no appliances running (apart from fridge, freezer, obviously). Lots of devices in standby, as you would expect. Two computers running (work and personal) with monitors. Immersion off (well, little red light on switch next to it is off). Current usage for the last half an hour has been between 590w and 660w (at 10p per hr). So I'm guessing that's just all my devices in standby mode. I have some techy things too - network server, hue hub, lightwaverf hub, Arlo hub, some Alexas with screens, they're all going to be drawing power too. Am i driving myself mad here for nothing, because I can see the power usage, or should I be investigating further?
I will go online and source some good meter readings.

Turn everything off until you get to zero - that'll show you what's using all the juice. The computers and monitors are probably eating quite a bit, depending age. If you can't get to zero, there's something you've missed. Shutting circuits off on the consumer unit can help with the detective work.0

Our houses stand by consumption (with fridge freezer and garage freezer on) is about 300w.
It sounds like the OP has a lot more items on standby then we do which will account for the extra 300w. I wouldn't say that is exceptionally high.0
