How to keep grout in patio overhang on a step

we've had a new patio laid with a 35mm overhang on the step so we can fit led strip lighting under the overhang. We need to grout the patio, how can we grout right up to the edge of the pavers (including the 35mm overhang) and allow the grout to set without running out the gap?
Hope me that makes sense as it’s been a long day...

Nail a couple of strips of wood together in an L shape. Clamp it to the overhang with one leg underneath and the other coming up the front. Tamp the grout in to the gap and leave for a couple of days. Once set, remove the clamps & wood. The grout will probably fall out of the gap over time (maybe three or four years). When it does, repeat the same exercise again.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Our people just put some duct tape underneath, enough to hold the grout in place until it sets.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

For more permanent support for the grout you could glue strips of slate under the slabs at the joints. Set it back a few mm and it won't be visible but will stop the grout falling out.

Are you using Epoxy Grout? if not, this could be part of a solution for you, combining this with the suggestions above. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0

I realise this post is now almost 2 and a half years old, but this is exactly the same issue that we have, and we too are looking at fitting LED lights under the overhang. I'd be interested to know how you got on both with the grouting of the overhang and what you did for an LED solution. Did it all work out?longwalks1 said:we've had a new patio laid with a 35mm overhang on the step so we can fit led strip lighting under the overhang. Never done this myself but what I would try is some suitable thickness of rope ( sisal or jute) tamped into gap then soak rope more than once and then grout. Leave enough space above and below rope to get reasonable amount of grout in.
