Forgot to scan items during a Sainsburys SmartShop

Hi all, yesterday I visited Sainsburys with my husband to do a shop. During the shop we were all over the place in the store and both adding things to the trolley. My husband assumed I was scanning everything, I assumed he would scan the bits he added in. On arrival to the check out we were selected for a spot check. No problem of course and the young man went ahead scanning. It turned out that the bits my husband had added were not scanned. Nothing was said to us by the member of staff and we dully paid for the trolley and left (a difference of £7). I was mortified and have felt anxious about it ever since. I was confused at the time because I didn't understand what had gone wrong but obviously once we discussed it it became clear. My question is.....What happens now? Will we be reported to the police? I have used the SmartScan since inception and never made a mistake. Thanks.

No you won't be reported to the police. If you were going to be reported, they'd have held you at the store. You paid for all your shopping and it was an honest mistake. The fact that you feel so guilty will ensure that you never do that again, I should think.
But haven't you seen the notices Sainsbury's have published all over the place? They say please can just ONE person from the same family do the shopping in all their stores during lockdown.
If just one of you does the shopping, then this won't happen. But also, it'll cut down on possible spread of the virus.
I also shop at Sainos. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. Hi MalMonroe, you are absolutely right about us shopping separately and no it won't happen again. Thanks for your response.0

Probably all that will happen is that the next time you do a "SmartShop", you will be selected for a check when you complete your shopping at the till. This means that they will be told by the system to checka certain number of items at random in your trolley. As long as this is correct, there should not be any future problems. That is how it works at my local Tesco.Going down the Oteley Road to see the Shrewsbury aces! :T2

Please don't worry. I think they do random checks for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes they will be honest errors like yours. Often the scan hasn't worked properly but occasionally they'll find someone genuinely cheating. You paid up. I'm sure that's all they're interested in. 😊2

Maman thank you. I have been worrying about it all day.1

Really no need to worry. As others have said, the only thing that may happen is that you’re a bit more likely to be scanned in the future.1

Whilst I did a scan n go shop at Tesco, their assistant at the scan n go tills told me that the more items you remove off the scanning you increase your odds at getting a spot check. Unsure if this applies to Sainsburys1

I will not use these scan and shops as I am very forgetful and would be sure to forget to scan stuff. Tried it once and it was very stressful.1

No the police wont be involved, a bit extreme.
Just make sure you scan the shopping next time.1 -
As said before, if you had a problem it would have happened at the time. They tend to scan the more expensive items to check they are allocated for, however not always. Be vigilant though, if you get discovered with any item not paid for there is no "forgot" excuse, it will be an arresting offence and a ban from the store.1
