Ipod sync confusion

I have an ipod touch which has overcharged, the battery expanded and pushed the screen out. I also dropped it and cracked the screen on my way to my instore appointment to repair the battery. Grrr. Anyway, I've backed it up to my PC (I think) as it now needs to be sent away for repair but I want to sync it with my account first.
The problem is what is on the ipod and what is in the library don't match. I have more on the ipod itself so would rather lose what is in the library if I have to. Is that even possible?
When I tick sync I get a warning saying 'Are you sure you want to remove existing music etc. from this ipod and sync with this itunes library? Music etc. on your touch from other itunes libraries will be removed and items will be synced from this itunes library.'
All the instructions I search for are gibberish or adverts for other software that I don't want to download. I'm utterly confused. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

If you have nothing constructive to say just move along.

Can you not sync with the computer that the IPod is normally synced with?0

No. That's the whole point. If I sync it will remove what's on the ipod and replace with what's in the library. Like I said above.mrochester said:Can you not sync with the computer that the IPod is normally synced with?If you have nothing constructive to say just move along.0 -
I've tried following the instructions here but when I open the ipod there are only photos and videos listed. No music files.
I've switched USB ports. I've backed up the ipod but can't see the back up folder on my PC.
I managed to get to Chat with apple and they were no use.If you have nothing constructive to say just move along.0 -
I don’t think it’s possible. It’s a one way sync with your PC being the master device and the iPod the slave.joho said:

I've used this application (albeit from a Mac) to retrieve music from an iPhone:

Long time since I had used Ipods but this is the Apple way.
If you dont have trhe music on the PC/MAC then Itunes wont allow you to transfer from the Ipod.
You need to use software to allow this.
Im long out of date on whats recommended now. Used to be free options though.1
