I’m not insured to drive my car around the  Nurburgring! for some reason they called that one track out explicitly!
It's tangential to the thread, but this is because in the Nurburgring "Touristenfahrten" sessions it's legally a public (toll) road with no speed limit, so it would be covered if not excluded. Language varies and may not name the ring but almost all UK policies exclude it through some term or other.

I hope the OPs daughter does get covered retrospectively or at least doesn't have her insurance cancelled or anything like that.

Another area for everyone to consider is your occupation, maybe a change of occupation, or retiring. When that happens you need to contact your insurer and make sure you update them, there can be some big differences between different occupations.

Also, from what i found on a quick google, different insurers treat retiring differently. Some seem to think you'll be out driving much more than before and increase rates, others less.

ISTR that Direct Line gave me a tenner or so back when i told them I'd retired. Note that retiring isn't a question of hitting pension age, its when you actually stopped working. Oh yes and unemployed and retired are often charged differently as well.  Indeed if you became unemployed but thought you wouldn't try to get another job for a period, say months to years, you would likely get a better rate by deciding you were retired than unemployed since most insurers charge more for being unemployed than retired. Even if later you decided to come out of retirement to work again :D
OP do let us know the outcome, whilst I disagree with your comment its all a trick*, my fingers are crossed for her.

    * the fact is, if their insurance had included commuting that would have made them more expensive than another insurer  who didnt and so she would likely have ended up with that one instead (who also wouldnt have covered commuting)
