What Digital Video Camera?

hi

I am going to buy a video camera for my daughter's Christmas. My budget is around £300 but there are so many to choose from. From what I have read mini dv cameras seem to offer the best quality and can be downloaded easyily enough on to computer.

Any thoughts and recommendations most welcome.

    Agree with the mini DV.

I had same problem choosing, a couple months back. Ended up with Canon, as I've hed several their film & digital cameras & always been more than happy. Plus some the controls are similar! So if you/she's got a digital model, of a particular brand, that might be worth thinking on!

The formats all have their own benefits, but the compactness, cheapness of tapes, quality & ease of copying/storing/editing, as well as models available do make it the sensible choice - I think!!

www.avforums.co.uk has lots stuff, some is a bit techie, but a lot is easier to understand.

This lot have small ranges, but OK prices https://www.digitaldepot.co.uk

Whatever you do, check the Pricerunner/Kelkoo comparison sites when you get one you fancy.

Think you might get 2 years warranty from JohnLewis on some models. But if you have Nationwide credit card & some others, the warranty is extended by a year, if you buy on it, remember! But they wont cover hard drive cameras!!

I recently bought a Sony DCR-HC37 Handycam Mini DV Camcorder from Amazon for about £150 for work (in a school). I know there are probably flashier models about but we are very pleased with it, I have recorded the school christmas productions, the zoom is plenty good enough to get in close from the back of the school hall, excellent quality recording, easy to use.
So pleased, I'm thinking of buying one for myself!
